Practice Overview

W&H's maritime law team consists of 30 lawyers who graduated from Dalian Maritime University and Shanghai Maritime University majoring in maritime law, many of whom have studied abroad or worked in international law firms, have served as arbitrators of China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, China Maritime Arbitration Commission and other Chinese professional arbitration commissions, have been listed as leading lawyers by The Legal 500, Chambers and Partners, Several former senior maritime judges and maritime arbitrators serve as legal advisors in the firm. 


Based on the global network of W&H and our alliance with INCE & CO,  the Wei Heng maritime business team has long provided professional legal services to Chinese and foreign clients in the shipping and marine-related industries.  In addition, W&H lawyers are actively involved in social activities and industry exchanges. In May 2022, as the organisations, W&H and INCE & CO successfully hosted the 10th International Maritime Law Seminar in Ningbo.

Clients served include: Chinese and international shipowners, crew members, insurance companies, P&I clubs, fishery mutual insurance associations, cargo owners, freight forwarders, shipyards, salvage companies, and other enterprises/individuals, as well as government agencies such as maritime bureaus, marine and fishery bureaus, and natural resources and planning bureaus.

    Represented cargo owner GMA Company in applying to the Ningbo Maritime Court for the compulsory offshore unloading and transfer of the vessel "Oriental Dragon". This case was selected as one of the "Top Ten Enforcement Cases of People's Courts in 2019" by the Supreme People's Court.

    Represented abandoned crew members in a series of disputes over crew employment contracts for the vessel "AVLEMON". These cases were selected as one of the "Eight Typical Cases Protecting the Legitimate Rights and Interests of Crew Members" released by the Supreme People's Court in 2020.

    Represented a government agency in a maritime claim confirmation dispute (compensation for marine ecological and fishery resource damages), which was selected as a typical case of marine environmental resources by Zhejiang courts in 2021.
